You need to take this dog to the vet and get his thyroid levels checked; hair loss can also be caused by stress, adrenal malfunction, and other endocrine problems as well as allergies (food, flea, pollen...just like people). Dogs with low thyroid will also tend to have ear problems to include discharge, infections, itching, smelly ears and head shaking due to fluid buildup. You need to get him on a hypoallergenic diet also as this might alleviate some of the symptoms rapidly (within a couple days to weeks) if it's allergy-related. I have the chocolate lab from hell...low thyroid to constant ear problems. Good luck to you!

PS: When you bathe your dog, use a hypoallergenic soap so as to not cause any more scratching and hopefully slow down the hair loss. Also, floppy-eared dogs tend to have more ear problems than short-eared dogs.

Call your vet, and report your breeder. Most likely the breeder doesn't know what he's doing or isn't certified and this causes all other kinds of problems out there so you would just be doing the world a favor.

As for your dog, you need to call your vet. I recomment calling rather than taking him in right away so you won't have a vet bill unless its nessisary. Hair loss can be caused by so many things, its hard to list. (the first guy did a nice job though, thumbs up) The vet will ask you detailed questions about the dogs condition, and then direct you from there.

Ear wax...he might just need his ears cleaned. If the breader didn't take good care of him and left him in dirty conditions it might be an ear infection. If that was the case the dog will usually tilt there head slighty. Ear wax in dogs is the same as ear wax in people, its produced to protect your ears from dirt, loud noises etc. So over time his ears may have just built up some extra wax. I would take him to a groomer just to get a good overhull done, if you search around you can find one that will do everything for under $100.
