Are there any natural ways to decrese the amount of hair my dog sheds?

A better quality diet will reduce shedding.

Nothing you find at a grocery store is going to be a good food. High quality foods can be found at large pet store chains, or online. A couple of foods I like are Nutro Natural, Innova, and Cannidae.

There are other high quality dog foods. Here's how to spot them:

A high quality food will have little or no fillers such as corn, wheat or soy. These aren't very digestable for dogs, and are common food related allergens. Since you were seeing corn meal in the first few ingredients, those are not high quality foods. Foods list ingredients by content, with the ingredient it contains most of at the top.

A high quality food will not contain BHT, BHA or Ethoxyquin, these are all chemical preservatives that have been linked to cancer.

A high quality food will not contain by-products of any kind. Meat meals are ok as long as the source of the meat is listed, such as Chicken Meal.

A high quality diet should have meat as at least the first ingredient., and be made from human grade ingredients. Foods that don't use human grade ingredients often get their ingredients from less than desirable sources, such as meat from animals that were diseased, or euthanized.

There is another diet option other than dog food. Some people choose to feed a raw diet. This involves feeding the dog raw meaty bones and organ meat. However it is not as simple as throwing a couple chicken bones in a bowl everyday. If you wish to feed this type of diet, do lots and lots of research first. Switching to this diet without knowing what your doing can lead to nutritional problems for your dog. I'll give you some links as a starting point in research if you are interested in this type of diet.

Yeah, try brushing it!

If the kibble you are feeding contains corn, soy, wheat, beet pulp, it may help to switch to a premium kibble with rice as its grain. This has helped my dogs emensely. I like Canidae, but I understand that Wysong, Solid gold, Innova and other all- natural kibbles work as well.

Often, if you can keep the house just a couple of degrees cooler it will help.

If it is just a temporay condition, all dogs are shedding heavily this time of year, to switch to their summer 'wear'.

If you bath your dog once a week (small) or every 2 weeks (medium to large), than brush it well after it drys, you will have a lot less hair to deal with.

Between bathing and brushing, you can vacuum him with the soft brush you use on drapes or try a fuzz buster or other mini vacuum cleaner. Do not use on a dog that is obviously terrified of the noise! It is too cruel.

You can also have your dog clipped and brushed by a dog groomer to make a world of difference in the problem.

Unless the dog is overly stressed the only way to deal with shedding is brushing.

If you have a long haired breed you can have them shaved. This is not really recommended for many breeds. Their hair helps insulate them from both heat and cold. Besides all shaving does is make the dog shed shorter hairs.

Proper nutrition can sometimes help as well. It also goes back to stress. If an animal is stressed out it will shed more profusely than is normal for the breed.

Brush Brush Brush till ya cant brush anymore. Thats really the only was to help decrease shedding. There ae shampoos you can buy but i dont believe they work. And they are probably harmful in many ways. There is also foods but i too doubt they work and wouldnt want to pay for them in the long run. Brushing is going to be your best bet. If your dog has long hair i suggest shaveing it. That cuts down massively on the shedding. But you have to get it donw every so often. It can be expensive if you dont have the means. But Brush brush brush. Your dog will love it and youll feel better as well. Hope i helped

high quality dog food (I like Nutro). don't bathe more then every two weeks, brush before and after the bath, and use some conditioner and leave it on for 10min. it'll help some of that hair come out. use a velocity dryer if have access to one
