My dog's hair is falling out!!!?

I'm freaked out, I have a pup 7 months almost 8 months. His mom was a golden retriever and his dad was a mix chihuahua... he's small.. and he was fine until recently.. I noticed his hair falls out when he rolls around, when I run my finger through his coat a lot of it just comes off like it's been off.. but he still has a lot of hair. Is this normal? And how much do vets usually cost??

Unless you actually start seeing bald patches, this is normal. I have a Golden and a Dalmatian. Both shed profusely - especially now as they are losing their winter coats for summer. Just a few brush strokes on the Golden will generate enough hair to create another dog. ;-)

What you should do is:

a) make sure your dog has plenty of water during these warm months;

b) ensure your dog has a healthy diet - some fat for coat shine, but not much;

c) brush at least once a week, but even daily if needed;

d) get a good vacuum cleaner - preferably one where you can empty the cylinder easily.

Be prepared to do this every year.

As for how much vets costs - that really depends on what's the problem. With this hair loss, there is no problem - it's called shedding. Just brush more (as I wrote above). But please get shots, get him neutered and get him properly obedience trained. That will cost you $$, but it is well worth it.

It sounds like normal shedding to me. Vet costs vary... call around to some in your area to check prices. Dog ownership can be costly.

It's called shedding. All dogs do it. I have a huskay, german sheppard, and did have a golden retriever. they all shed like crazy. and they still do. I have to brush them and vacum the house like 3 or morer times a week.

If he is just shedding it is fine. If he is actually getting bald spots you will need to take him to the vet. An office visit is at least $35.00 and then whatever else he needs will be more.

Dogs shed their fur. Totally normal. Just like you shed your hair. If the dog suddenly has bald spots, take him to the vet. Vet visits are around 30-40 dollars to have him looked over, but tests and x-rays get pricey.

It might be because of old age. But you might want to check out if yourdog has Anemia. A major sign of Anemia is hair falling out, more so than usual. I'm not so sure if this applies to dogs, but it can't hurt to look into.

this is very normal it's called shedding you should have seen my old dog there hair grows in to fast that they have to shed so they have a nice coat cats and dogs both do this

It sounds normal to me I had a dog once that shed like crazy no matter what. It doesn't sound like anything to worry about, but if you are worried I would call the vet and just ask them if it is normal.

OH boy. allergy season. there are many things that could make his hair fall out. at this time of year though it is most likely allergies. sometimes there are certain medications or dog foods that can prevent or stop this from happening. Hope you find a cure.

He may just be malting this is perfectly normal if your still worried is he scratching alot if so check his skin if its red dry and flackey he could have mites (mange) if this is the case its got to be a trip to the vet but at this time of year i would be 95% sure hes just malting because the weather is getting hotter he dont need as much fur to keep him warm so his body will get rid of it

dont worry about getting your dog to the vet because it is very normal for dogs to shed their fur. What you should do is go get a dog brush and help the process along and brush his fur and you will see alot more hair comming out but that is completly normal but if u ever do see that your dog is getting big bald spots where there is no fur and you can see the skin then you should call the vet.

There is no ' normal ' when you are talking about mixing breeds.. Do you groom the dog at all? Likely he could use a good brushing, and some Omega 3 oils in his food.

2. He could have one of several types of mange.

3. He could have ring worm.

4. He could have food allergies, which affect skin and coat.

Does he have any bald spots?
