My dog is losing his hair and he vomits often...why?

Lately, my dog vomits and there are hair in it, too... why? He's also sheading... It that bad?

My dog is losing his hair and he vomits often...why?

I wouldnt worry really....it sounds to me like he has hair balls. And most dogs when they get a hair ball stuck in thier throat from cleaning themselves will go outside and eat grass to make themselves throw up to get the hair out of thier throat. A really good trick with this is to buy some potrolieum jelly and get a good bit on your finger and open his mouth and place it at the back of his throat . this will help him to be able to swollow the hair balls and stop throwing up so much. it is perfectly harmless and it helps him. also i would worm him if you havent had him "wormed" lately. just to make sure that he doesnt have worms as well. that could also be why he is throwing up as well. but its easy to fix, just buy some liquid wormer and some dog food in a can and mix the liquid wormer with the dog food and let him eat it all. that will make sure he doesnt have worms. sometiems it takes two doses at different intervals to get rid of worms completely.

also it is normal for a dog to shead. but check his skin real good for bare skin spots where there may be no hair growing at all. he could have the mainge....(which eats away at a dogs hair in spots and causes him to be very unhealthy) he can catch this from other dogs and even be contagious. so wash your hands and arms well after touching the dog if you do find that his hair is missing altogether in some spots and still growing in others and take him to the vet as soon as possible to get him "dipped" in a special medicine to get rid of it. dont worry though, you can get anything that is wrong with him fixed. i would call a vet and describe the symptoms of your dog to the vet and ask the dr. what he thinks you should do. good luck.

poisoning ?

I think a trip to the vet is in order. Soon.

Sounds like he's vomitting up hair balls. He could have a serious medical condition causing him to lose more hair. Get him to the vet for a checkup, and brush him frequently.

He may be poisened take him to the doctor

You should take him to the vet to get this checked out. It could be as simple as a food allergy. Good luck.

because you won't take him to the vet!

it sounds like a flea problem because of the tics or fleas the dog inches and bites the areas that bug him/her. The more the dog bites the more hair he/she will pull the more hair he/she will lose and he will eat. Also can be a allergy to something the dog got into.

mange?

If he has fleas, he could be chewing and ingesting hair, hence irritating his stomach and vomiting.

Some poisons cause hair loss and vomiting in small doses.

Check for fleas and make an appointment at the Vet.

Yes, I agree that you should take him to the vet. Unexplained vomiting is not good.

nutrition that is what the dog needs.... it is definitely a food allergy, dry skin? lots of scratching? thin spots on his coat? especially around the base of the tail area? vomiting? all signs of poor nutrition ... all dog foods are not the same !!! just because a dog likes the food doesn't mean that it's good for him !! i had the same problem with my dog , i personally switched to "pro plan " senior formula..( she was eight years old at the time ) and within a few weeks the improvement was dramatic to say the least !! i knew the dog was miserable as she was lethargic as well.... i guess it's like human food ..just because you like the taste doesn't mean it's good for you !! good luck

Id take it to the vet asap. It could be something simple, but sometimes hair loss can be a sign of cancer. Good luck.
