My mom and dad are fighting because they both have no idea how often we should wash Tobi's (my dog) hair. Have any ideas? If u do please help!

I have a schnoodle (half poodle, half schnauzer) with apricot poodle curly hair. Wilbur sleeps in MY bed, so he gets a bath alot. I've found that dog shampoos are way too harsh for him. He doesn't have fleas, so I don't buy flea soaps because pesticides can be way toxic. And he gets knotted and matted easily. Believe it or not, I use my shampoo on him, (I like Finesse for dry, coarse hair the best) and yes, he has gotten in the shower with me... :-) and if he gets dirty in between weekly bath day, I just hose him off with warm water. Yorkies pose a grooming problem too, so try a spray conditioner/detangler that you can buy at Pet Smart, and keep him brushed. Rinsing thoroughly is important, and I taught Wilbur to sit on the "grooming stool" while I use the blow dryer and dry him off. If a dog's skin got irritated from too frequent shampooing, I think increased chewing and scratching would be a clue. sue.

No more than twice a month, doing so will dry out the skin and cause irritation. Also use very high quality shampoo. I suggest Equess( wrong spelling) it is the best!
