My dog's hair is constantly coming out and he has white specks like dandruff?

that is most likely Mange.... my dog had that 1 year ago. its not really bad but the vet should have prescribed meds... i dont know why they didnt...

It could be Dander that looks like dandruff give you dog a shampoo or dry bran bath that should get rid of the problem Dander is quite harmless

Go to an other Vet if its that bad, but a good dog shampoo, and may be better food.

I had an advice from a Vet, I add a table spoon of olive oil to their food or cod liver oil (best)

My dog has this. The dog is just malting. It doesn't cause any harm! The spots are dandruff and you can get medicated shampoo but it does cost quite a bit!

Is your dog scratching the area where the hair is coming out? It could be allergies. Has your dog had major changes in it's life? I have heard of dogs losing hair because of severe stress.

I would make an appointment with a vet if I were you to at least rule out mange because it is extremely contagious.

In the mean time I would bathe him in an oatmeal shampoo. I have often used Aveno oatmeal bath for humans. It seems to soothe the irritated skin. Good Luck!

The breed doesn't really make any difference. There can be two reasons for this: one is mites, and your vet will have to make that determination and give you medication to get rid of them. You can check his years for black stuff that looks kind of like coffee grounds to get a good idea of whether he has mites (if the black stuff is there, chances are that he does), but take him back to the vet and suggest that the vet look for mites.

The second reason is more likely: your dog may be allergic to the grains (corn, wheat, soy) in his dogfood. If this is the case, a switch to a higher quality dog food will help a lot. You'll need one that does NOT have corn as the first ingredient and wheat or soy in the top ten ingredients. High quality food has a meat (usually lamb, chicken, or beef) as the first ingredient, and may not have any wheat or soy in it at all. It's more expensive, but your dog will need less of it to fill him up and his stools will be firmer and smaller than with his regular food, because dogs cannot digest corn and it is excreted when he poops.

In addition to mites and allergies, remember that this IS winter and the air is drier. Your dog may just have dry skin like a lot of humans do, although if his hair is falling out in clumps, that's not likely. If your dog is just shedding, though, brushing or combing him once or twice a day will help. Also, giving him omega-3 oil (or any fish oil) will also help. And if it turns out that he's allergic to the grains in his dog food, switching to a higher quality dog food will help the shedding, too. By "high quality" dog foods, I mean things like Innova Evo, Eagle Natural Pack Holistic, Canidae, Burns, or Royal Canin. (I am not affiliated in any way with any of the companies that make these foods.)

My poodle used to have dandruff, which is dry skin. I started giving him omega 3, 6, 9, or vitimin E capsuels in his food, once a day. Just break the capsuel and put the jel in his food and mix it up. I also gave him plain yogurt, cottage cheese and one raw egg twice a week. I also started bathing him with oatmeal shampoo for dogs and a creme rinse for dogs. It took about 2 months to get rid of his dandruff. I bathed him once a week. I always dried him with my hair blower dryer, because it is cold right now, and you don't want him to catch cold. Also brush his coat once a day, to get his natural oil's in his skin going. Hope it works for you. It always worked for my dogs.

A lot of the time the answer can be simple please try a tea spoon of olive or fish oil (preferably fish) added to the food this can make a very fast and positive difference to the coat and skin

Some dogs can get this through stress. A dog that suddenly has white specks and has hair coming out really does sound like your dog is stressed out about something. A vet may tell you that your dog is being over washed or central heating is drying out the skin causing dandruff. I would always get a second opinion. Maybe try asking a dog trainer. My friend has a dog and gets frightened of other dogs, within minutes her dog has white specks all over her coat. If you notice this then its stress your dog is feeling. But get it properly checked out.
