Dyson Animal. Expensive but well worth it. I go through vacuums like some people go through milk and bread. Haven't managed to do any damage to my Dyson in the approximately three years I have had it. Here is a link to Dyson: http://www.dyson.com/homepage.asp
Whatever you decide to get, I suggest you get it at Best Buy because they have the best service contract. Pay a bit extra and anything at all that goes wrong, even after warranty is up, they take care of. That's how I got my Dyson. My last loser vacuum (I believe it was actually a Hoover Wind Tunnel) stopped sucking dirt and just plain sucked. I had the plan at Best Buy, no questions asked, didn't even plug it or or nuthin, they took it back gave me a gift card for what I had spent on it and I used that to trade up to the Dyson. Did I mention I love the Dyson?
I looking for a good upright vacuum that will do good on wood floors, carpet and dog hair.?
I like Dyson too, but I have used Electrolux for 28 yrs. I am on my 2nd upright, have had it for 14 yrs., %26amp; never had to replace the belt. Still works like new.
