Why does Consumer Reports rate the Dyson so poorly when most users love it?

Consumer Reports has rated the Dyson poorly. Most reviews I've read have been stellar. The main drawback is the price. I'd like to know why it's so low on the CR list, and if real users find the following issues problematic:

- when emptying the bagless container, dust/crud flies back in the air.

- hepa filtration (does it really work?)

- allergy sufferers - how is it?

BTW, my dog is a shedding machine, so my house has dog hair EVERYWHERE...

I have one, the green and purple model, can't remember what its called. FABULOUS!!!!! better than any other brand I have ever had.

1. I usually empty my container onto the garden, or the compost heap, and I have never had a problem with particles of any kind flying back into the air.

2. the hepa filtration really does work. My daughter also has one, and can't handle dust in the air. She has no problems now.

3. Don't know on this as I don't have allergy problems. But then are the others any better?

The ones with bags certainly let dust fly everywhere when emptying

The are a bit expensive, I paid $799 for mine two years ago, but then comparable range models in other cleaners are in the same price bracket

I also have a dog, mostly indoor, plus cats, and the first time I used my machine I was horrified at just how much hair it collected. And I thought my Hoover was doing a good job. (That was a top range one as well....heap of junk)

Hope that helps..........

For the same reason move ratings are bad on movies and when you see them you love the move. It all has to do with who payed to have the consumer reports done on the Dyson.

I'm sorry but I agree with the Consumer Reports I had one, parts fell off, the motor burnt out twice, it cost me $79 dollars to send it back to Dyson to get fixed each time. I couldn't actually empty it because of the dust blow back and the exhaust air would blow papers around my house. It now sits at the local dump. My sister inlaw has a SEBO and she brings it over my house so I can use it, she's from the UK and apparently SEBO is a massive hit over there. I have cats not dogs and it lifts the hair wonderfully.

Easy answer. Many far less expensive models clean EXACTLY the same. I have a $70.00 Bissell. It has a hepa filter. I have a persian cat and it takes all the long hair out of the fibers of the carpets. If you maintain ANY vacuum well and use it properly, any vacuum will clean well.

dunno why CR does what it does... maybe because of the price? It does rate by cost and effectiveness together.

I have the Animal, always take mine outside to empty... and it is FULL of cat hair and stuff when I do.

My son in law is allergic, but seems to be ok when he visits... so i guess its working for that...

I love the thing... that long extension for the stairs,,,the different attachments....the fact that the beater bar doesn't rotate uselessly while I use the extension...(ruined a carpet with another brand doing that)

Yep, love my Dyson Animal.
